The
newly constituted Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has
held its induction retreat in Uyo, aimed at aligning Board members with the
Commission’s strategic priorities and reinforcing its mandate as a key driver
of Nigeria’s digital economy.

The
retreat was chaired by Chief Idris Olorunnimbe and provided a platform for
in-depth deliberations on Management’s strategic focus, regulatory
responsibilities, and the Commission’s role in strengthening the
telecommunications sector. Also in attendance were the Executive Vice Chairman
and Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida; Executive Commissioner
for Stakeholder Management, Ms. Rimini Makama; and Executive Commissioner for
Technical Services, Engr. Oshadami Sunday.
Other
members of the NCC Board present at the retreat included Princess Nere Emiko,
Mrs. Maryam Bayi, Senator Olalekan Mustapha, Hon. Chris Okorie, and Engr.
Newton Ugwuegede.
The
programme featured sessions facilitated by experienced professionals drawn from
legal, regulatory, and governance backgrounds. Mrs. Yetunde Akinloye led a
detailed review of the Nigerian Communications Act of 2003, while Mr. Paul
Usoro, SAN, shared insights on effective board governance and oversight within
a national telecommunications regulatory environment. Professor H. Sama Nwana
provided an international perspective on the evolving role of regulators and
the future of telecommunications regulation, and Prof. Fabian Ajogwu, SAN, OFR,
focused on core principles of corporate governance.

Discussions
throughout the retreat emphasized strong governance, regulatory credibility,
and a results-driven approach that prioritizes outcomes for consumers, industry
stakeholders, and the broader digital economy. The induction retreat marked an
important step in positioning the new Board to provide strategic leadership and
oversight in support of Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
