Kenyan
President William Ruto has praised Ethiopia for its strong focus on the
development of artificial intelligence, describing the country’s investment in
the sector as timely and strategic.

President
Ruto made the remarks during a visit to the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence
Institute, which he toured alongside Ethiopian Prime Minister H.E. Abiy Ahmed.
The two leaders were taken through the institute’s ongoing research activities
and programmes aimed at advancing the application of artificial intelligence
across key sectors of the economy.
According
to President Ruto, Ethiopia’s decision to establish a dedicated institution for
artificial intelligence research at this stage demonstrates a clear
understanding of the long-term benefits of emerging technologies. He noted that
building national capacity in AI positions the country to harness innovation
for economic growth, governance, and regional competitiveness.

The
visit highlighted Ethiopia’s broader digital transformation agenda and its
commitment to developing home-grown expertise in advanced technologies. It also
underscored the growing collaboration between Ethiopia and Kenya in areas of
technology, innovation, and knowledge exchange within the East African region.
