The
National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) and the University of
Ibadan have formalised a landmark Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen
collaborative research and optimise resource utilisation at the newly
established Centre for Space Life Sciences located on the University of Ibadan
campus.

The
agreement marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s space research and
development journey and reinforces the country’s commitment to advancing space
life sciences, research innovation, and capacity development. Speaking at the
ceremony, the Director General of NASRDA, Dr. Matthew Olumide Adepoju,
described the establishment of the Centre for Space Life Sciences within
Nigeria’s premier university as a critical step toward deepening national space
research capabilities.
The
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Oyebode
Adebowale, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to advancing space science
and technology. He noted that the institution looks forward to a productive
collaboration with NASRDA under the new partnership, which is expected to
support cutting-edge research and skills development in space-related
disciplines.
The
event was attended by principal officers of the University of Ibadan as well as
directors from various NASRDA centres and departments. Dr. Adepoju expressed
appreciation for the strong staff turnout, noting that their presence reflected
a shared commitment to the agency’s mission. He emphasised the importance of
unity, teamwork, and national cohesion, stressing that meaningful progress in
Nigeria’s space sector can only be achieved through collective effort across
geographical and institutional boundaries.

The
partnership is expected to play a key role in strengthening Nigeria’s space
life sciences ecosystem while contributing to broader national development
objectives.
