The
United Nations has launched the UN Digital Cooperation Portal, a new online
platform designed to advance the implementation of the Global Digital Compact
adopted by world leaders in 2024 as part of the Pact for the Future.
The
portal was developed by the UN Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies,
with key contributions from the UN Trade and Development and the UN Industrial
Development Organization. It is intended to serve as a central hub for mapping
and cataloguing digital initiatives worldwide, supporting greater coordination
across the global digital ecosystem.
According
to the United Nations, the platform brings together initiatives in areas
including inclusive digital economies, artificial intelligence governance,
digital infrastructure development, and the protection of human rights online.
By using AI-powered tools, the portal connects related activities, identifies
opportunities for collaboration, and tracks progress across countries,
institutions, and thematic priorities in real time.
The
UN Digital Cooperation Portal is open to a wide range of stakeholders,
including governments, UN agencies, civil society organisations, researchers,
and businesses. Participants are encouraged to voluntarily contribute
information on initiatives and data, a process the UN says will enhance
transparency, inclusivity, and efficiency in digital cooperation efforts.
The
platform aligns digital initiatives with global frameworks such as the
Sustainable Development Goals and the outcomes of the World Summit on the
Information Society. Through this approach, it aims to help bridge digital
divides, promote cross-border partnerships, and ensure that technological
advancement delivers equitable benefits.
The
launch of the portal underscores the United Nations’ commitment to coordinated,
rights-based digital development at a time of increasing global
interconnectedness.
