Ethiopia has officially launched the Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy in the presence of President Abiy Ahmed, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation agenda. The new strategy sets out a five-year roadmap aimed at accelerating Ethiopia’s transition to a digitally empowered, inclusive, and knowledge-driven economy.

The Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy builds on the achievements recorded under Digital Ethiopia 2025, which laid the groundwork for expanded digital services, improved connectivity, and stronger institutional coordination. The new framework places emphasis on leveraging technology as a tool for national development, economic growth, and social inclusion.

The launch was led by the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, working in collaboration with the National Digital Transformation Council and a broad range of experts, policymakers, and development partners. The strategy is designed to strengthen digital infrastructure, expand access to digital services, and create an enabling environment for innovation across both the public and private sectors.

Under the Digital Ethiopia 2030 vision, priority areas include the expansion of broadband and next-generation connectivity, the scaling of the national digital identity system known as Fayda, and the adoption of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and automation to improve governance and service delivery. The strategy also underscores government commitment to policy reforms that support startups, promote innovation, and advance a cash-lite digital economy.

The government has indicated that the strategy is citizen-centered, with a focus on ensuring that digital transformation benefits all Ethiopians, including those in rural and underserved communities. By strengthening digital access and skills, the initiative aims to unlock new opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs, youth, and businesses across the country.
