The
Central Bank of Guinea has launched the implementation of an Instant Payment
System (IPS) aimed at creating an open, interoperable, and inclusive national
payment infrastructure. The initiative was inaugurated during a two-day
workshop and was officially opened by the First Vice-Governor of the Banque
Centrale de la République de Guinée, Elhadj Mohamed Lamine Conte.

The
IPS project brings together key stakeholders in the payments ecosystem to
establish a framework for real-time payments, reduce reliance on cash, enhance
the efficiency of government payments, and strengthen financial inclusion,
particularly in rural areas. The initiative is also expected to spur fintech
innovation and increase competitiveness within Guinea’s financial sector.

AfricaNenda
Foundation, which is supporting the project, reaffirmed its commitment to
working with national actors and indicated that updates on the system’s
progress will be shared in the coming months.
