U.S.
President Donald Trump has signed a new Executive Order aimed at strengthening
the United States’ leadership and strategic position in space, marking a
significant shift in the country’s space policy framework. The Executive Order,
titled Ensuring American Space Superiority, establishes an “America
First” approach focused on expanding space exploration, enhancing national
security, accelerating space commerce, and delivering advanced capabilities for
future generations.
The
Order outlines ambitious goals for the U.S. space program, including the return
of American astronauts to the Moon by 2028 and the establishment of initial
elements of a permanent lunar outpost by 2030. It also directs preparations for
the deployment of nuclear reactors on the Moon and in orbit, with plans for a
lunar surface reactor to be ready for launch by the end of the decade.

In
addition to exploration objectives, the Executive Order emphasizes
strengthening U.S. space security by improving the country’s ability to detect,
characterize, and counter a full spectrum of threats to American space
interests. It further seeks to stimulate private sector innovation and
investment by modernizing launch infrastructure and creating a commercial
pathway to replace the International Space Station by 2030.
The
signing ceremony was attended by newly appointed NASA Administrator Jared
Isaacman on his first day in office, underscoring the administration’s
commitment to advancing its space agenda through close coordination between
government leadership and the space sector. The Executive Order positions space
as a central pillar of U.S. technological leadership, economic growth, and
national security in the years ahead.
