Zimbabwe reiterates commitment to universal connectivity during ITU courtesy visit

Zimbabwe
has reiterated its commitment to achieving universal, meaningful, and
affordable connectivity for all citizens following a courtesy visit by the
Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau of the International
Telecommunication Union, Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, to State House in
Harare.
Dr.
Zavazava paid the visit to President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, accompanied
by the Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier
Services, Hon. Tatenda Mavetera. The engagement focused on Zimbabwe’s national
priorities in expanding access to digital connectivity across the country.
During
the meeting, President Mnangagwa noted the government’s resolve to ensure that
access to communication services is inclusive and equitable, regardless of
geographical location or socio-economic status. He underscored the importance
of extending connectivity to urban centers as well as rural and remote
communities as part of Zimbabwe’s broader development agenda.
The
discussions highlighted the role of digital infrastructure in driving
socio-economic growth, improving access to public services, and supporting
innovation. The engagement also reflected continued collaboration between
Zimbabwe and the ITU in advancing policies and initiatives aimed at closing the
digital divide and promoting sustainable digital development.
