The
Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau of the International
Telecommunication Union, Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, has commended ongoing
digital inclusion efforts at the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service’s
Marondera Female Open Correctional Institution following a visit to its Digital
and Vocational Training Centre.

During
the visit, Dr. Zavazava observed the facility’s computer laboratory and
connectivity infrastructure, noting their role in equipping inmates and members
of the surrounding community with essential digital and vocational skills. The
centre is aimed at bridging the digital skills gap by providing practical
training that supports rehabilitation, empowerment, and long-term
socio-economic inclusion.
He
congratulated the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of
Zimbabwe and the Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and
Courier Services for their leadership and commitment to inclusive digital
development. According to Dr. Zavazava, initiatives of this nature demonstrate
a clear resolve to ensure that digital transformation efforts reach all
segments of society, including marginalized and hard-to-reach groups.

The
Digital and Vocational Training Centre forms part of broader national efforts
to promote digital literacy and lifelong learning, reinforcing the principle
that no individual and no community should be left behind in the digital age.
