The
AfCFTA Committee on Digital Trade has convened in Nairobi following the
completion and adoption of the AfCFTA legal framework for digital trade by the
African Union Assembly of Heads of State and Government. The meeting brought
together representatives from State Parties to identify and discuss key priority
areas for accelerating the implementation of the AfCFTA Protocol on Digital
Trade.

During
the session, participants focused on practical actions to unlock the full
potential of digital trade for businesses, consumers, and governments across
Africa. The Committee emphasized that the Protocol on Digital Trade is a
critical tool for building a more integrated, resilient, and inclusive digital
economy on the continent.
Key
areas of discussion included awareness creation, policy reforms, regulatory
coherence, interoperability, digital platform infrastructure solutions, and
cooperation on emerging technologies.

The
Committee reaffirmed the importance of collaboration among member states to
ensure the successful adoption and operationalization of the Protocol, aiming
to enhance Africa’s digital trade landscape and economic integration.
