EthSwitch unveils EthioPay to unify Ethiopia’s digital payment ecosystem

EthSwitch
has officially launched its new national digital payment brand, EthioPay,
during a grand ceremony at Friendship Park in Addis Ababa. The event was
attended by senior government officials, members of the EthSwitch Board of
Directors, financial institution leaders, and key stakeholders from across
Ethiopia’s financial sector.
In
his opening remarks, Ato Solomon Desta, Vice Governor of the National Bank of
Ethiopia and Chairperson of the EthSwitch Board, described EthioPay as a
national asset built on collaboration rather than competition. He stressed that
the brand’s success depends on collective adoption, consistent usage, and
shared responsibility across the financial ecosystem.
EthSwitch
CEO Ato Yilebes Addis explained that EthioPay is designed as a unified national
digital payment platform supporting multiple use cases, including interoperable
e-commerce, mobile banking, and card schemes.
The
system enables secure, instant, and interoperable digital transfers and
payments, aiming to create a seamless and inclusive national payment ecosystem
that fosters interoperability across Ethiopia’s digital financial landscape.
