Ghana
Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited (GhIPSS) has hosted a
delegation from the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) office in
Sierra Leone and the Bank of Sierra Leone on a study visit focused on
interoperable payment systems and the operation of a national payments switch.
The
engagement provided an opportunity for GhIPSS to share Ghana’s experience in
the development and management of interoperable payment platforms, including
the evolution of its services, performance outcomes, and levels of industry
adoption. Discussions also covered governance and operational frameworks, as
well as challenges encountered and lessons learned throughout the
implementation process.

The
delegation was received by GhIPSS Chief Executive Officer, Clara Arthur, and
hosted by the General Manager for Technology and Operations, Kwadwo Ntim,
together with the Acting General Manager for Business Development, Akosua Blay.
Participants
from Sierra Leone included officials involved in financial supervision, payment
systems oversight, and fintech innovation. The visit forms part of UNCDF’s
ongoing collaboration with the Bank of Sierra Leone to strengthen financial
inclusion, expand digital financial services, and enhance consumer protection
frameworks.
GhIPSS
reaffirmed its commitment to regional collaboration and knowledge-sharing in
support of secure, interoperable, and inclusive payment systems across Africa.
