The Kenya Space Agency (KSA) and Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) have strengthened their partnership in space research and innovation following the signing of a collaborative agreement at DeKUT in Nyeri County.

The agreement was signed by KSA Director General, Brigadier Hillary Kipkosgey, and DeKUT Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eng. Peter N. Muchiri, EBS, reflecting a shared commitment to supporting the growth of space science and technology in the country.

Under the collaboration, the two institutions will work together to promote research, education, and innovation in space-related technologies. The agreement also aims to inspire young people to pursue careers in space science and apply space-based solutions to address national and societal challenges. Areas of cooperation include knowledge and expertise sharing, the establishment of a research centre of excellence at DeKUT, and the development of artificial intelligence technologies to support Kenya’s expanding space sector.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Brigadier Kipkosgey reaffirmed KSA’s commitment to strengthening Kenya’s national space capabilities and expanding the country’s space industry. He emphasized the importance of partnerships with universities in advancing space science and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the sector.

As part of the visit, the KSA Director General toured several of DeKUT’s facilities, including the Mechatronics Laboratory, the Virtual Mechatronics Laboratory, and the Centre for Development of Electronic Devices. The facilities showcased the university’s capacity to support advanced research and provide practical, hands-on training for students.

The visit concluded with Brigadier Kipkosgey planting a tree at the DeKUT Heroes Garden, symbolizing the partnership and a shared vision for the future of space research and innovation in Kenya. The collaboration is expected to play a key role in strengthening space research, innovation, and education while positioning space science as a driver of national development.
