The
Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) of Zambia has held a meeting with a delegation
from UNDP Zambia, led by Deputy Resident Representative Laurent Rudasingwa, to
discuss the Smart Health System Initiative, a program aimed at enhancing health
services through renewable energy, internet connectivity, and digital
monitoring systems.

The
initiative will begin at eight health facilities across Lusaka and Central
Provinces, including Sekelela Health Post in Chilanga, Chitukuko Health Post in
Lusaka, Mboshya Rural Health Centre in Chibombo, Ngwerere Main Rural Health
Centre in Chongwe, George and Chainda Urban Health Centres, Kamwala Urban
Health Centre, and Liteta District Hospital in Chisamba. Solar systems ranging
from 3 kWp to 15 kWp will be installed at these facilities, alongside smart
devices to monitor power, temperature, and storage conditions, enabling
healthcare workers to protect medicines and equipment effectively.

Discussions
also focused on aligning the initiative with national systems such as SmartCare
Pro and the Electronic Logistics Management Information System (eLMIS),
ensuring sustainability through local ownership, youth involvement in
maintenance, and integration into the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
The
meeting highlighted the critical role of collaboration and data-driven
approaches in improving health service delivery, particularly in underserved
areas.
