BasiGo
has announced the opening of its newest electric vehicle (EV) charging station
at the recently upgraded Shell Athi River, marking a key expansion of Kenya’s
e-mobility infrastructure. This is the company’s third charging site hosted at
a Shell service station, following earlier deployments at Shell Waiyaki Way and
Shell New Gatitu in Thika.

The
Athi River station is equipped with CCS2 and GB/T DC fast chargers, capable of
powering up to four vehicles simultaneously, enabling efficient turnaround for
operators. The facility will primarily serve buses operating along the
Kitengela route, including Rembo Classic and Enabled Mashariki Sacco.
Strategically
located along a major transport corridor connecting Nairobi to Machakos and the
Eastern region, the station represents a significant step in extending electric
mobility beyond the capital. The expansion is part of BasiGo’s broader plan to
strengthen the charging network needed to support Kenya’s growing fleet of
electric buses and commercial EVs.

With
this new facility, BasiGo continues to operate the country’s largest network of
DC fast chargers for electric buses and maintains East Africa’s largest fleet
of electric buses currently in service, reinforcing its role in driving the
transition to sustainable public transport in the region.
