Zimbabwe
has formally received hard copies of its approved National Artificial
Intelligence Strategy for the period 2026–2030, marking a key milestone ahead
of its official public launch scheduled for March 12, 2026.
The
handover was made by a UNESCO delegation led by Dr. Lamini and Dr. Yusoef to
the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Postal and Courier
Services and Member of Parliament for Chikomba West, Tatenda Mavetera, who
received the documents on behalf of the nation.

The
exchange precedes the formal launch of the strategy by President Emmerson
Dambudzo Mnangagwa and reflects continued collaboration between the Government
of Zimbabwe and UNESCO in advancing responsible and inclusive artificial
intelligence development. While the strategy has already been made available in
digital format, the physical handover was described as reinforcing shared
commitments to ethical standards, inclusivity and innovation.
The
minister acknowledged the contributions of all stakeholders involved in
developing the national strategy and indicated that the country is entering a
critical phase of stakeholder engagement. This phase will focus on readiness
for the public launch and, more importantly, on ensuring effective
implementation of the strategy across sectors.

The
National AI Strategy 2026–2030 is expected to guide Zimbabwe’s approach to
artificial intelligence governance, innovation and capacity building in
alignment with international best practices.
