Togo
has begun the distribution of 3,900 solar home kits as part of a national
effort to expand access to clean and reliable energy. The initiative was
officially launched on Thursday, December 11, 2025, in Komsadè, located in the
Adjengré area of the country’s central region.
The
project stems from a cooperation agreement between the Togolese Republic and
the People’s Republic of China, aimed at supporting rural electrification and
strengthening energy resilience in underserved communities.

A
Chinese technical team, together with technicians from IFAD-ENR who were
trained in the installation of the solar kits, joined experts from the General
Directorate of Energy (DGE) and the Togolese Rural Electrification and
Renewable Energy Agency (AT2ER) to begin the technical deployment. The first
installations were carried out at the village school ahead of the rollout to
beneficiary households.
Authorities
noted that the initiative will contribute significantly to improving living
conditions, supporting education, and reducing reliance on non-renewable energy
sources in rural areas.
