The
Senegalese Agency for Space Studies (ASES), the World Food Programme (WFP), and
the National Council for Food Security (CNSA) have signed a memorandum of
understanding to develop a decision-making tool that will use spatial data,
artificial intelligence, and national indicators to predict food insecurity
trends in Senegal.
The
agreement was formalized on Wednesday, December 10, in Dakar during the launch
of the WFP Innovation – West Africa Regional Innovation Hub. The initiative
aims to produce an integrated platform capable of forecasting potential shocks
related to food insecurity and generating dynamic, interactive maps of current
and projected conditions.

According
to the partners, the tool will leverage satellite data, AI-driven analytics,
and information from the Cadre Harmonisé to support more effective planning and
response strategies. The project is expected to strengthen national resilience
mechanisms by providing policymakers with advanced insights to guide
interventions.
ASES
stated that the collaboration reinforces its mission to apply space science and
Earth observation technologies to public policy priorities, particularly in
agriculture, food security, and sustainable development.
