President
of the African Space Agency (AfSA), Dr. Tidiane Ouattara, has met with the
Women in GMES & Africa delegation during the first day of the GMES &
Africa Phase 2 Continental Forum in Cairo. The engagement followed
presentations and a Q&A session featuring Women in GMES & Africa, the
African Women in Evaluation Network (AfWEN), GMES, and other associated
networks, all highlighting the critical roles women play within the programme’s
broader structure.

The
discussion reaffirmed a shared commitment to advancing inclusivity and gender
equity in Africa’s space and Earth observation sectors. Representatives from
across the continent’s EO landscape attended the gathering, which served as a
platform to review progress, assess emerging opportunities, and strengthen
collaboration among ongoing initiatives.

Dr.
Ouattara commended the women-led networks for their contribution to capacity
development, programme evaluation, and community impact within the GMES &
Africa framework.
