The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has held a high-level meeting with a delegation from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), led by Director General Daren Tang, to discuss the strategic role of intellectual property in advancing Uganda’s development agenda.

The engagement brought together senior government leaders, including Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Norbert Mao, URSB Board Chairman Rt. Hon. Amb. Butagira Francis, Registrar General Mercy K. Kainobwisho, and representatives from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, led by Minister Justine Kasule Lumumba.

Discussions focused on how intellectual property can drive innovation, strengthen the creative sector, enhance business competitiveness, and support entrepreneurs and researchers. The meeting also emphasized the need to accelerate the digital transformation of Uganda’s IP systems and expand capacity-building initiatives to empower innovators.

The dialogue reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to deepening collaboration with WIPO to build a vibrant innovation ecosystem that contributes to economic growth and national transformation.

URSB noted that it remains committed to working with both national and international partners to position intellectual property as a key driver of the country’s progress.
