The
Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems
Limited (GhIPSS), Clara Arthur, has reiterated the importance of collaboration
among national payment switches in advancing interoperability and real-time
settlement across Africa. She made the remarks during the maiden PAPSS Cowry
Conference held in Lagos.

Speaking
alongside other industry leaders, Ms.Arthur shared Ghana’s progress in
developing a unified national payments hub anchored by GhIPSS. She noted that
the hub connects all licensed payment service providers in the country,
enabling seamless transactions across multiple platforms.
The
GhIPSS CEO outlined several collective actions African national switches must
prioritise to accelerate the rollout of interoperable and inclusive payment
systems capable of supporting cross-border transactions. She stressed that such
systems would play a key role in scaling payment initiatives and strengthening
financial integration across the continent.

She
reaffirmed GhIPSS’s commitment to working closely with the Pan-African Payment
& Settlement System (PAPSS) to develop solutions that support trade under
the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). According to Arthur, enhanced
cross-border payment infrastructure is essential to expanding financial
inclusion and driving economic growth.
She
expressed appreciation to PAPSS for organising the conference and said she
looked forward to future milestones that reflect the continent’s collective
progress in digital payments.
