The
German development agency GIZ has delivered new IT and office equipment to the
Djibouti National Police as part of efforts to modernise migration management
and advance the digitalisation of visa and migration procedures in the country.
The
support, provided through the Better Migration Management (BMM) Project, is
aimed at improving the efficiency, safety and integrity of Djibouti’s migration
systems. The initiative is funded by the German Government and the European
Union.

According
to GIZ, the upgraded equipment will help streamline migration processes, making
procedures faster and more secure for both the general population and migrants
transiting through Djibouti. The enhancements are expected to reduce
vulnerabilities to exploitation and human trafficking by strengthening
oversight and accountability at key processing points.
The
new tools will also bolster data security, ensuring that sensitive personal
information is handled and stored more effectively. In addition, improved
digital capabilities are set to enhance coordination between police
headquarters and field units, enabling more timely and effective responses at
border posts.

Djibouti
serves as a major transit hub for migrants from the Horn of Africa, making
efficient and secure systems vital to managing movement and protecting people
on the move. The BMM Project continues to work with national institutions to
reinforce migration governance and support safer, more orderly migration
pathways in the region.
