Ethio
Telecom has announced the visit of a high-level Chinese delegation led by Zhang
Wang, Director General of the Department of Data Resources at China’s National
Data Administration, as part of ongoing efforts to expand strategic cooperation
in digital infrastructure and innovation.

During
the engagement, Ethio Telecom CEO Frehiwot Tamru provided an overview of the
company’s major achievements since Ethiopia’s telecom sector reform,
highlighting its role as a key driver of the country’s digital economy. She
emphasized the operator’s commitment to promoting digital inclusion, creating
jobs, and empowering communities through technology-enabled services.
Frehiwot
also outlined Ethio Telecom’s forward-looking plans, which include harnessing
Big Data and artificial intelligence, establishing a hyperscale data center,
and expanding into smart device manufacturing. She noted that China’s global
leadership in digital infrastructure presents significant opportunities for
partnership across these priority areas.

Zhang
Wang commended Ethio Telecom for its contribution to Ethiopia’s digital
transformation and noted similarities with China’s own digital development
path. He expressed China’s readiness to support strong company-to-company
collaborations aimed at accelerating Ethiopia’s digital ambitions.
Both
sides affirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation as they work
toward unlocking the full potential of Ethiopia’s digital future.
