Ghana
hosted the 49th Session of the ARIPO Administrative Council and the 20th
Session of the Council of Ministers in Accra, bringing together Member States,
Observer States and partners to advance Africa’s intellectual property agenda.
Attorney
General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, who chairs the
ARIPO Governing Bodies, said the meetings reaffirmed the continent’s commitment
to strengthening innovation, intellectual property protection and shared
economic prosperity.

Dr.
Ayine expressed appreciation to all participating states and institutions,
noting that their engagement demonstrated a united resolve to build a modern
and competitive Africa driven by creativity and innovation. He also thanked the
Government of Ghana for facilitating the successful organisation of the
sessions, acknowledging Solicitor-General Helen Akpene Awo Ziwu for
representing President John Dramani Mahama at the ministerial opening.
He
highlighted the progress made under ARIPO’s Strategic Plan and welcomed Member
States' renewed commitment to deepen cooperation, enhance institutional
capacity, and expand opportunities for African creators, innovators and
businesses.

Dr.
Ayine emphasised that intellectual property is a strategic asset for economic
transformation, youth empowerment and Africa’s global competitiveness, and
pledged continued collaboration with Member States and partners to ensure
innovation across the continent is protected, rewarded and promoted.
