Ghana hosted the 49th Session of the ARIPO Administrative Council and the 20th Session of the Council of Ministers in Accra, bringing together Member States, Observer States and partners to advance Africa’s intellectual property agenda.

Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, who chairs the ARIPO Governing Bodies, said the meetings reaffirmed the continent’s commitment to strengthening innovation, intellectual property protection and shared economic prosperity.

Dr. Ayine expressed appreciation to all participating states and institutions, noting that their engagement demonstrated a united resolve to build a modern and competitive Africa driven by creativity and innovation. He also thanked the Government of Ghana for facilitating the successful organisation of the sessions, acknowledging Solicitor-General Helen Akpene Awo Ziwu for representing President John Dramani Mahama at the ministerial opening.

He highlighted the progress made under ARIPO’s Strategic Plan and welcomed Member States' renewed commitment to deepen cooperation, enhance institutional capacity, and expand opportunities for African creators, innovators and businesses.

Dr. Ayine emphasised that intellectual property is a strategic asset for economic transformation, youth empowerment and Africa’s global competitiveness, and pledged continued collaboration with Member States and partners to ensure innovation across the continent is protected, rewarded and promoted.
