Botswana has officially launched the Digital Delta Data Centre, a milestone
project that government officials say marks the beginning of a new era in the
country’s digital evolution. Speaking at the inauguration, the Minister of
Communications and Innovation, David Tshere outlined how Botswana’s long-term
investments in national connectivity—ranging from international cable systems
to an extensive fibre network—have established the foundation for a modern,
technology-driven economy.

The
newly unveiled facility consolidates these investments, offering the secure,
high-performance infrastructure required to support cloud computing, digital
government platforms, artificial intelligence applications and local data
hosting. The centre’s Tier III Certification, Hon. Tshere noted, reflects
BoFiNet’s technical expertise and the commitment of its citizen-owned partners
who helped deliver a world-class, carrier-neutral facility.
Beyond
the physical infrastructure, the project has had a notable social impact.
Hundreds of young people have benefited from BoFiNet’s skills development
initiatives, gaining hands-on experience in fibre deployment, data centre
operations and technical project management.

Looking
ahead, the Ministry of Communications says it plans to migrate key government
systems to the Digital Delta Data Centre while strengthening national data
protection frameworks to support data localisation. These measures align with
BoFiNet’s mandate to enhance secure digital services, boost operational
reliability and help organisations transition into a fully digital future.
