Proparco, the
French development finance institution, has announced a new investment in
BasiGo to advance the adoption of electric public transport across Kenya and
Rwanda. The financing will support the scale-up of local electric bus assembly,
expansion of charging infrastructure, and the growth of BasiGo’s product
portfolio under its “Road to 1000” initiative.

Since beginning
operations in 2022, BasiGo’s electric buses have covered more than 7 million
kilometres, transported 10 million passengers, and helped avoid over 3,300
tonnes of carbon emissions. The company says the new partnership with Proparco
and Agence Française de Développement marks a significant step toward
accelerating clean mobility solutions in Africa.

BasiGo
described the investment as a strong endorsement of the region’s transition to
sustainable transport and reaffirmed its commitment to building a cleaner,
electric future for public transportation across the continent.
