Sonatel
Group has renewed its long-term commitment to advancing Sierra Leone’s digital
future following a courtesy visit by Chief Executive Officer, Brelotte BA to
President Julius Maada Bio at State House in Freetown.
During
the meeting, Mr. BA outlined the Group’s priorities, including accelerating
nationwide 4G expansion, sustaining major investments in telecommunications
infrastructure, and supporting government-led digital transformation
initiatives. He stressed that enhanced connectivity remains central to
improving service delivery, innovation and economic growth.

Introducing
the delegation, Orange Sierra Leone CEO Sekou Amadou Bah described Mr. BA as a
seasoned telecommunications leader with more than two decades of experience
across the Sonatel and Orange networks in Senegal, Mali, Guinea-Bissau and
Guinea. He said Mr. BA’s regional expertise will further strengthen Orange
Sierra Leone’s operations and service quality.
The
visit comes ahead of the inauguration of Orange Sierra Leone’s second data
centre in Bo, a major addition to the country’s digital infrastructure designed
to improve network reliability and resilience. Mr. BA highlighted Sierra
Leone’s importance within the Sonatel ecosystem, noting that Orange Sierra
Leone currently delivers about 80 per cent of the country’s 4G services. He
said the Group is intensifying efforts to extend high-speed mobile internet to
additional districts and rural communities while investing in modern,
future-ready infrastructure.

Mr.
BA also reaffirmed Sonatel’s commitment to digital inclusion, citing the Orange
Digital Centers established across the country to support young people,
students and innovators. He thanked President Bio for his continued support and
for fostering an enabling environment for telecom sector investment.
President
Bio welcomed the delegation and commended Sonatel and Orange Sierra Leone for
their essential role in the country’s digital and economic progress. He
emphasized that telecommunications is a key driver of national development and
said expanded 4G coverage, the new data centre and continued infrastructure
investment are critical to ensuring inclusive growth and competitiveness.
