Uganda
has formally begun preparations to host the Digital Government Africa Summit
(DGA) 2026, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the
National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U) and Africa Brains,
the official summit organiser. The agreement, signed marks the start of
preliminary engagements ahead of the high-level event scheduled for 6–7 October
2026 in Kampala.

The
announcement follows an earlier confirmation made in Lusaka, Zambia, in
October. NITA-U will host the summit on behalf of the Government of Uganda,
placing the country at the centre of the continent’s efforts to accelerate
public-sector digital transformation.
The
Digital Government Africa Summit is widely regarded as Africa’s leading
ministerial platform dedicated to advancing digital governance. It brings
together policymakers, innovators and private-sector leaders to exchange
insights, build partnerships and support alignment with the African Union’s
Digital Transformation Strategy for 2020–2030.
NITA-U
Executive Director, Dr. Hatwib Mugasa welcomed Uganda’s selection as host
nation, describing it as a strong endorsement of the country’s progress in
strengthening digital government infrastructure and services. He said the
summit reaffirms NITA-U’s role as a key driver of ICT transformation.

Africa
Brains CEO, John Glassey also expressed confidence in the collaboration, noting
that the summit will provide an important opportunity for governments across
the continent to engage in meaningful dialogue on building digitally empowered
public institutions.
The
2026 summit is expected to attract representatives from numerous African
governments, creating a platform for advancing e-government systems, innovation
and improved public service delivery. Uganda’s hosting of the event is seen as
an important step in positioning the country as a leader in Africa’s digital
transformation agenda.
