Ethio
Telecom has inaugurated its third super-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging
station in Addis Ababa as the company expands its support for Ethiopia’s
transition to clean and sustainable transportation.
The
new facility, located in the Summit Fiyel Bet area, is equipped with 16
ultra-fast charging points capable of supporting simultaneous charging. The
installation significantly increases the company’s overall capacity to serve
the country’s rising number of electric vehicles.

Chief
Executive Officer Frehiwot Tamru described the initiative as a reflection of
Ethiopia’s broader digital and economic transformation. She said the project
positions the company as a model for other African nations seeking to build
climate-resilient and green economies.
The
station features energy-efficient, AI-enabled technology that optimizes
charging speed while preserving battery health. It is compatible with a wide
range of vehicle models, including those built on European standards.

Since
February 2025, Ethio Telecom has delivered more than 4.3 million kWh of energy
to 165,000 electric vehicles across its charging network, which includes
earlier stations capable of serving 32 vehicles at once. The company estimates
that these efforts have prevented more than 6 million kilograms of carbon
dioxide emissions, the environmental equivalent of planting over 30,000 trees.
Ethio
Telecom said it will continue expanding its EV infrastructure to support
national goals for cleaner mobility and sustainable economic growth.
