Namibia and UNDP collaborate on digital development and AI policy

Namibia’s Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelu has held a courtesy meeting with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative, Amanda Serunaga, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in support of the country’s national development priorities.

During the meeting, both parties explored opportunities to deepen collaboration between government institutions and international development agencies to advance Namibia’s social and economic objectives. The discussions focused on aligning efforts to strengthen digital transformation initiatives and improve the coherence of joint programmes.

Minister Theofelus highlighted the country’s growing need for support in developing an artificial intelligence white paper and legislation, emphasising Namibia’s ambition to build world-class digital public infrastructure. She underscored the importance of strategic partnerships in shaping the policy frameworks required to ensure responsible and inclusive adoption of emerging technologies.

The UNDP Resident Representative expressed the organisation’s continued commitment to working with Namibia to accelerate progress in areas critical to the nation’s long-term development.
