The
Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAII) and the Supreme Court of
Oromia have signed an agreement to jointly develop an AI-powered transcription
system aimed at converting oral court proceedings into written text in the
Afaan Oromo language.

During
the signing ceremony, EAII Director General Dr. Worku Gachena highlighted that
natural language processing (NLP) is a key focus area for the Institute. He
emphasized the organization’s commitment to addressing societal challenges
through AI solutions and noted that the partnership reflects its dedication to
delivering technologies that support public services.
Hon.
Ato Gezali Abasimel, President of the Supreme Court of Oromia, noted that
delays in transcribing oral arguments into written documents have been a major
challenge within the court system. He explained that the collaboration with
EAII will enhance the speed, accuracy, and efficiency of judicial service
delivery.

As
part of the visit, the Supreme Court delegation toured EAII’s headquarters to
observe ongoing AI research and development activities.
