The Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAII) and the Supreme Court of Oromia have signed an agreement to jointly develop an AI-powered transcription system aimed at converting oral court proceedings into written text in the Afaan Oromo language.

During the signing ceremony, EAII Director General Dr. Worku Gachena highlighted that natural language processing (NLP) is a key focus area for the Institute. He emphasized the organization’s commitment to addressing societal challenges through AI solutions and noted that the partnership reflects its dedication to delivering technologies that support public services.

Hon. Ato Gezali Abasimel, President of the Supreme Court of Oromia, noted that delays in transcribing oral arguments into written documents have been a major challenge within the court system. He explained that the collaboration with EAII will enhance the speed, accuracy, and efficiency of judicial service delivery.

As part of the visit, the Supreme Court delegation toured EAII’s headquarters to observe ongoing AI research and development activities.
