The
African Telecommunications Union (ATU), in partnership with AFRALTI and
consulting firm Masterspace Solutions Ltd, has opened a regional
capacity-building workshop in Nairobi aimed at boosting Africa’s transition to
IPv6.

The
training programme brings together 60 participants from 30 countries to enhance
both technical expertise and policy preparedness for IPv6 deployment. The
initiative comes as African states work to overcome the limitations of IPv4 and
expand connectivity within rapidly growing digital ecosystems.
Representing
ATU Secretary General John Omo, Isaac Boateng, Director for Standardization,
underscored the crucial role of local specialists in supporting regulatory and
technical shifts at the national level. He said the workshop is part of ongoing
efforts to equip Member States with the skills needed to strengthen internet
infrastructure and future-proof their networks.

The
programme is supported under the first cycle of the ICANN Grant Program, which
aims to bolster internet development and resilience across the continent.
