Senegal
reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive and sovereign digital technology at the
World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25) in Baku, where
Minister of Communication, Telecommunications and Digital Affairs Alioune Sall
represented the country. The Minister highlighted Senegal’s vision of the New
Technological Deal, emphasizing digital technology as a tool for sovereignty,
innovation, and territorial cohesion.

Central
to Senegal’s participation was its bid for re-election to the ITU Council,
where the country has been a continuous member since 1972. Senegal’s presence
allows it to contribute to key decisions in a sector undergoing rapid
technological evolution.
During
the conference, Minister Sall held high-level bilateral meetings with the
Director of the ITU Radiocommunication Development Bureau, the ITU
Secretary-General, and Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Telecommunications.
Senegal also hosted a cocktail attended by senior ITU officials and delegates
from more than 50 countries to officially launch its candidacy for re-election
to the ITU Council for the 2027–2030 term ahead of the 2026 Plenipotentiary
Conference.

The
Minister acknowledged the contributions of the Senegalese delegation, including
the Prime Minister, the General Directorate of ARTP, the ARTP College, and
FDSUT, for ensuring the success of the country’s participation. He called on
all Senegalese stakeholders to mobilize in support of the nation’s re-election
to the ITU Council.
