The
Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) has begun its
internal transition from physical SIM cards to electronic SIMs, two months
after Minister Emma Theophelus officiated the national launch of MTC’s eSIM
technology.

Senior
management of the ministry completed their migration to the digital SIM
platform, marking a significant step in supporting the country’s push toward
secure and modern mobile connectivity. The eSIM, which is embedded directly
into a device, enables users to activate mobile plans without a physical card
and allows multiple SIM profiles on a single handset.
The
Interim Executive Director of the ministry, Linda Aipinge, and the Director of
Audio Visual Media, Roselia Penda, were among the officials who registered
their eSIMs during the rollout.

The
shift reflects Namibia’s broader commitment to enhancing digital services and
improving network security as the country continues to advance its ICT
infrastructure.
