The Ministry of ICT’s Department of Research, Science, Technology and Innovation (RSTI), in partnership with the Kingdom of Eswatini Academy of Sciences (KEAS), has convened stakeholders for the KEAS Annual Research Conference, focused on strengthening the role of science in the country’s development efforts. Held under the theme “From Evidence to Action: Mobilizing Science for Eswatini's Development Agenda,” the conference brought together researchers, policymakers, and private sector representatives to promote open science, data sharing, and evidence-based decision-making.

This year’s gathering aimed to reinforce the connection between research outputs and national policies while encouraging collaboration across key institutions. The discussions highlighted the importance of scientific innovation in driving socio-economic growth and building an inclusive knowledge-driven society.

Addressing participants on behalf of the Principal Secretary, Under Secretary Ms. Macanjana Motsa emphasized the collective responsibility of stakeholders in shaping the country’s future. She noted that the event was not only an exchange of ideas but a reaffirmation of Eswatini’s commitment to advancing national development through science and technology.

Ms. Motsa also underscored the need for inclusivity in the nation’s scientific progress. She stressed that efforts would fall short if the benefits of research and innovation were reserved for a select few, calling for continued action to bridge the digital divide, promote equitable STEM education, and create opportunities for all citizens, regardless of gender or socio-economic background.

The KEAS Annual Research Conference remains a key platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and partnerships that support Eswatini’s scientific and socio-economic aspirations, reinforcing the role of research and innovation in national development.
