Vodacom
Group has announced a multi-year strategic collaboration with Google Cloud
aimed at accelerating the operator’s digital transformation and expanding the
adoption of advanced artificial intelligence solutions across its African
markets.
The
agreement, announced on Tuesday, will see Vodacom integrate Google Cloud’s data
analytics and AI products, including its generative AI models Gemini, Veo, and
Imagen, into its core operations. The initiative is expected to modernise
Vodacom’s technology infrastructure, unify its extensive data assets, and
support the development of new digital services tailored for African consumers
and businesses.
Vodacom
Group CEO, Shameel Joosub, said the partnership represents more than a
technological shift, describing it as a commitment to advancing Africa’s
digital revolution. He noted that leveraging Google Cloud’s capabilities will
help Vodacom build and deploy solutions that address the continent’s unique
challenges and ensure the benefits of AI reach millions of users.
Maureen
Costello, Vice President for UKI and Sub-Saharan Africa at Google Cloud, said
the company is proud to support Vodacom in driving AI-led transformation across
the region. She said the collaboration will provide Vodacom with access to
Google Cloud’s most advanced AI models and industry-leading data
infrastructure.
The
agreement focuses on three strategic areas: data modernisation, accelerated AI
adoption, and future product innovation. Vodacom will migrate and consolidate
critical data systems onto Google Cloud’s platforms to improve real-time
insights and strengthen data governance. The company will also deploy Google
Cloud’s Vertex AI and Gemini models to enhance network performance, personalise
customer service, and strengthen fraud detection.
Vodacom
plans to develop new fintech products, enterprise tools, and improved consumer
digital experiences as part of its innovation roadmap. The collaboration builds
on the broader strategic partnership between Vodafone and Google Cloud,
reinforcing efforts to scale secure and reliable digital solutions across
global markets.
