The European Space Agency (ESA) has recognised three leading European space companies for outstanding performance across its programmes and missions. The awards were presented on 20 November at ESA’s stand during the Space Tech Expo Europe 2025 in Bremen, Germany.

Germany’s OHB received the Excellence Award as prime contractor for its exceptional contribution to ESA’s Plato mission. The company was acknowledged for delivering high-quality work that significantly supports the mission’s objectives.

Finland’s HULD, now part of the Gofore Group, received the Excellence Award as a subcontractor for its technical expertise and proactive contribution to the Sentinel-4 and Sentinel-5 missions. The software engineering firm specialises in safety-critical software and advanced data processing systems.

Switzerland’s Luxtelligence was presented with ESA’s Innovation Award for its pioneering work in photonics, delivered across up to five projects under ESA’s Discovery and NAVISP Element 1 programmes. The company manufactures thin-film lithium niobate and lithium tantalate technologies that enable extremely high-speed optical communications.

The awards are based on evaluations conducted in 2024 and consolidated in the first half of 2025. ESA assessed 33 projects, carrying out 241 evaluations on 119 suppliers across 23 countries. The process helps ESA identify areas for improvement and provide structured feedback that enhances supplier performance, strengthens industrial capabilities, and reduces potential programme risks.

Supplier Performance Evaluations also benefit smaller subcontractors by boosting their visibility and attractiveness to prime contractors, positioning them for greater responsibility in future missions.

Christine Klein, Head of ESA’s Industrial Policy and Auditing Department, said this year’s winners represent the second round of the agency’s Supplier Performance Evaluation Awards, adding that ESA looks forward to recognising more outstanding contributors in the years ahead.
