The
Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA) has supported the Cooperative
University of Kenya in conducting a peer review assessment aimed at
strengthening the institution’s innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. The
exercise, carried out using the Entrepreneurial Institution Maturity Framework
(EIMF), represents a significant step toward enhancing the university’s
capacity for innovation and research commercialization.

Zetech
University facilitated the review, providing technical guidance to help the
Cooperative University identify strengths and growth opportunities across key
areas including leadership, governance, human capital, infrastructure, and
policy environment. The peer review was conducted in collaboration with
Institutional Working Groups and KeNIA staff to ensure a structured and
evidence-based process.
KeNIA
noted that the approach enhances institutional effectiveness and strengthens
quality assurance systems, contributing to continuous improvement within
academic and administrative departments.

The
agency reaffirmed its commitment to fostering partnerships that connect
academia, industry, and policy, with the goal of supporting universities to
build environments where research responds to societal needs and
entrepreneurship drives sustainable socio-economic development.
