The
Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has received the PUMA-2025 and ClimSA
stations through the EU-funded ClimSA project, boosting the country’s weather
monitoring and forecasting capacity. The new systems provide access to Meteosat
Third Generation (MTG) data, delivering sharper images every 10 minutes and
enabling faster, more accurate forecasts and stronger early warning systems for
Ghana and the wider region.

GMet
teams have undergone training in forecasting and system administration, with
climatologist training scheduled in the near future. This development continues
a trajectory of growth for Africa’s weather and climate monitoring
capabilities, building on previous initiatives such as PUMA, AMESD, and MESA.

GMet
officials expressed pride in contributing to the continent’s expanding
meteorological and climate capacity, highlighting the agency’s role in
enhancing regional resilience and preparedness.
