South
Africa’s Deputy President, Paul Mashatile, has met with senior executives of
global payments company VISA during the B20 Summit engagements at OR Tambo
House in Pretoria.
Deputy
President Mashatile held discussions with VISA’s Regional President for Central
and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Tareq Muhmood, alongside Senior
Vice President and Head of South and East Africa, Michael Berner, and other
members of the company’s delegation.

The
meeting forms part of broader government efforts to deepen cooperation with
global private-sector partners and support South Africa’s digital payments
ecosystem. Government has identified digital financial services as a key
enabler of economic inclusion, small-business growth and innovation.
The
discussions covered opportunities for strengthening collaboration, expanding
payment infrastructure and leveraging technology to enhance secure, accessible
and efficient financial services across the country.

Both
sides expressed willingness to continue exploring aligned initiatives that
support national economic priorities and the advancement of South Africa’s
digital economy.
