The Nigeria Data Protection
Commission (NDPC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Smartcomply
Technologies Solutions Limited to develop a compliance checklist aimed at
supporting Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in meeting data protection
requirements.

National Commissioner of the NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji
The MoU was signed by the
National Commissioner of the NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, who emphasized the
critical role SMEs play in driving both the global and Nigerian economies. He
noted that embedding privacy practices into SME operations would deliver long-term
benefits for businesses and citizens, and highlighted that the agreement would
reinforce the existing partnership between the Commission and Smartcomply. Dr.
Olatunji also proposed the establishment of a working group to ensure effective
implementation of the MoU.
Smartcomply CEO, Gbemisola
Osunrinde, who signed on behalf of the company during the virtual ceremony,
expressed the organisation’s commitment to collaborating with the NDPC. She
said the initiative aims to improve data protection outcomes for Nigerians across
the country and beyond.

The partnership is expected
to support broader national efforts to strengthen data governance, build SME
capacity, and promote a safer digital environment in line with Nigeria’s
evolving data protection framework.
