TikTok’s
Government Relations and Public Policy lead, Emir Gelen, has concluded a series
of high-level engagements in Abuja aimed at strengthening collaboration with
Nigeria’s digital and regulatory institutions. The visit included meetings with
key government officials responsible for cybersecurity, technology development,
digital economy policy and data protection.

Mr.
Gelen held discussions with Ahmad Sa’ad Abubakar, National Coordinator of the
National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre; Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi,
Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency; Dr.
‘Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy; and
Dr. Vincent Olatunji, Commissioner of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
According
to him, all engagements emphasized Nigeria’s expanding influence as a digital
powerhouse in Sub-Saharan Africa and the strength of the country’s creative and
technology ecosystems. He acknowledged the hospitality and constructive
dialogue shared by Nigerian authorities and reiterated TikTok’s commitment to
supporting Nigeria’s digital and creative economy.

The
TikTok’s Government Relations and Public Policy lead said the company will
continue its collaboration with government institutions, civil society,
academia and other stakeholders to advance innovation and ensure a safe and
thriving digital environment for users.
