Ericsson
has expanded its footprint in Africa with the inauguration of a new office in
Lusaka, Zambia, reinforcing its commitment to the country’s digital development
and strengthening its regional presence. The move aligns with Zambia’s National
Digital Transformation Strategy 2023–2027 and aims to support ongoing efforts
to broaden connectivity and technological innovation.
The
opening ceremony was attended by Zambia’s Minister of Science and Technology,
Felix Mutati; Swedish Ambassador to Zambia, Johan Hallenborg; and Alain Maupin,
Vice President and Head of Ericsson East and North Africa, alongside other
stakeholders. The new office is expected to deepen Ericsson’s engagement with
local partners and customers, offering enhanced collaboration and access to
advanced technologies that support the country’s digitalization agenda.
Minister
Mutati welcomed the development as a significant contribution to Zambia’s
digital ambitions. He said Ericsson’s expanded presence would help drive
connectivity, empower innovation and support a more inclusive and sustainable
digital future for citizens.
Ambassador
Hallenborg described the office opening as a milestone in the longstanding
partnership between Sweden and Zambia, emphasizing that the collaboration
reflects both countries’ commitment to leveraging digitalization for economic
growth and social development.
Maupin
said the Lusaka office demonstrates Ericsson’s long-term commitment to Zambia
and its broader #AfricaInMotion strategy, which focuses on advancing digital
inclusion across the continent. He noted that the new location will enable
closer cooperation with stakeholders and ensure the delivery of
high-performing, energy-efficient networks aligned with national connectivity
goals.
Ericsson
has operated in Zambia for nearly two decades, contributing to the expansion of
mobile connectivity and digital services across the country.
