Africa Joint Programme Office (JPO) has participated in the 4th edition of the
SPACE STAR Conference, held in Tunis, Tunisia. The event, themed “Towards the
Next Space Generation,” brought together experts, researchers and policymakers
for discussions focused on advancing space science, technology and
applications, particularly for emerging nations.

During
the conference, SatNav Africa JPO contributed technical insights on the
evolving capabilities of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), addressing
key challenges such as Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) and the growing need
for authentication within Satellite Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS). The
organisation emphasised how improved GNSS resilience and security can support
critical sectors across Africa, from aviation and transport to agriculture and
disaster management.
Panel
sessions and a roundtable discussion underscored the strategic importance of
GNSS research and development, highlighting its potential to drive economic
growth and foster innovation across the continent.

SatNav
Africa JPO’s participation reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Africa’s
satellite navigation capabilities and supporting regional efforts to build a
more robust and future-ready space ecosystem.
