Kenya’s
Cabinet Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy, William Kabogo has led a
high-level delegation to Romania for CyberWeek 2025 as part of efforts to
strengthen the country’s digital transformation agenda and explore new
strategic technology partnerships.
During
the visit, Kabogo took part in the Romania–Kenya IT & Cybersecurity
Business Forum held alongside the Bucharest Cybersecurity Conference 2025. He
reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to expanding its digital capabilities under the
Digital Superhighway and Creative Economy agenda and outlined the country’s
ambition to cement its position as a regional technology leader.
Kabogo
said the collaboration with Romania marks an important step toward enhancing
Kenya’s cybersecurity ecosystem. He noted that Kenya is seeking to deepen
cooperation with Romanian institutions to reinforce cybersecurity
infrastructure, improve policy frameworks and strengthen national resilience
against emerging digital threats.
The
discussions also centred on innovation and digital trade, with both sides
exploring ways to promote digital entrepreneurship and attract cross-border
technology investments. Delegates examined opportunities to support startups,
scale digital solutions and foster a more dynamic tech marketplace between the
two countries.
The
Kenyan team further held meetings focused on skills development, research
partnerships and academic collaboration. According to officials, these
engagements aim to bridge the digital skills gap by facilitating joint research
projects, training programmes and knowledge exchange between Kenyan and
Romanian institutions.
Kabogo
described the ongoing engagements as a new phase in Kenya’s digital growth
story, reflecting national priorities for secure, inclusive and
innovation-driven development. He said the partnership aligns with Kenya’s
broader vision for 2030, which seeks to position the country as a competitive
digital economy with robust cyber capabilities and a thriving technology
sector.
