The Director-General of the Regional African Satellite
Communication Organisation (RASCOM), Timothy Ashong, has reiterated the strategic
role of satellite communications in supporting financial institutions and other
critical sectors.
Speaking during a panel discussion with industry
experts and leaders on how central banks across Africa can collaborate with
RASCOM to enhance secure connectivity on the continent at the ongoing Transform
Africa Summit in Conakry, Mr. Ashong stated that a secure and reliable
connectivity is essential for Africa’s financial ecosystem.

According to him by partnering with central banks,
RASCOM can ensure that institutions operate safely and efficiently while
driving financial inclusion across the continent.
During the summit, Ashong also held a meeting with
the Chief Executive Officer of Smart Africa, Lacine Kone to discuss potential
partnerships aimed at advancing Africa’s digital transformation agenda. “Collaboration
with organizations like Smart Africa allows us to leverage expertise and
resources to deliver scalable, secure connectivity solutions that empower
governments, enterprises, and communities,” he added.

The discussions highlighted the importance of
trusted and resilient digital infrastructure in supporting Africa’s economic
growth and financial stability, reinforcing RASCOM’s commitment to bridging the
digital divide and fostering innovation across the region.
