SES
and the Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative (WPDI), founded by
international artist and humanitarian Forest Whitaker, have been awarded the
Changing Lives Award at the Africa Tech Festival for their collaborative
efforts to bring high-speed satellite internet to WPDI Community Learning
Centers in South Sudan and Uganda.

The
award recognizes initiatives that significantly improve lives across Africa.
Through the partnership, SES provides the connectivity needed for thousands of
young people to access digital education, virtual exchange programs, and
entrepreneurship training at WPDI learning centers, equipping them with digital
literacy and leadership skills to drive positive change in their communities.
“This
recognition underscores the transformative power of satellite technology in
bridging the digital divide and creating real opportunities for young people in
underserved regions,”
said SES CEO Adel Al-Saleh. Forest Whitaker added, “Education is the
cornerstone of lasting peace. By equipping youth with knowledge and resources,
we empower them to shape their own paths and become catalysts for positive
change in their communities.”

The
partnership, which began in June 2025, highlights the role of technology in
fostering education, empowerment, and sustainable development in
conflict-affected and underserved regions of Africa.
