The
African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN) have reaffirmed their commitment
to deepen cooperation on addressing Africa’s development and security
challenges, with a strong focus on digital transformation, climate resilience,
and inclusive growth.
The
pledge was made during the Ninth AU–UN Annual Conference, co-chaired at UN
Headquarters by AU Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf and UN
Secretary-General António Guterres.

The
two organizations highlighted ongoing initiatives including the Digital
Transformation Strategy for Africa, the G20 AI for Africa Initiative, and
outcomes from the Second Africa Climate Summit, emphasizing their role in
driving sustainable development and innovation across the continent. Leaders
underscored the importance of harnessing technology and climate-smart solutions
to accelerate progress in African economies and improve resilience against
environmental and societal shocks.
The
conference also addressed AU-led peace processes, sustainable financing for
peace operations, and the empowerment of women and youth as key drivers of
inclusive growth.

Both
parties agreed to hold the Tenth Annual Conference in 2026 in Addis Ababa,
Ethiopia, to further strengthen their strategic partnership in support of
Africa’s digital, climate, and development agendas.
