The
International Telecommunication Union (ITU) this week celebrated a major
milestone with the 100th meeting and 30th anniversary of the ITU Radio
Regulations Board (RRB). The occasion was marked in the presence of ITU
Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin and members of the global
telecommunications community.
Established
to ensure the fair and consistent application of the Radio Regulations, the RRB
plays a vital role in managing the global radio-frequency spectrum and
satellite orbits — essential resources that enable satellite communications,
mobile connectivity, and emergency communication services worldwide.

Comprising
12 elected members, the Board is responsible for approving and refining the
Rules of Procedure used to interpret and apply the Radio Regulations, reviewing
findings and appeals from national administrations, and addressing cases of
harmful interference. The RRB also identifies emerging regulatory issues for
future radiocommunication conferences and provides expert guidance to member
states and the Radiocommunication Bureau.
The
100th meeting represents three decades of international cooperation and
technical excellence dedicated to ensuring equitable access and
interference-free use of the radio spectrum. The milestone underscores the
RRB’s continuing contribution to global connectivity and the advancement of
telecommunications for sustainable development.
