Lesotho has officially handed over a newly equipped computer laboratory to
’Matheko Vocational School in Thaba-Tseka, a move aimed at expanding digital
access and building technology skills among young people in the region.
Developed
in partnership with the American Corner in Maseru and the Ministry of Gender,
Youth and Social Development, the facility is fitted with 20 advanced desktop
computers, wheelchair-accessible stations and Non-Visual Desktop Access (NVDA)
software to support visually impaired students. Vodacom will provide two years
of complimentary high-speed internet to power the lab.

Vodacom
Lesotho PR Manager, Retšelisitsoe Chefa said the investment reflects the
company’s purpose of enabling a digitally enabled future for Basotho youth.
“A digitally skilled workforce is non-negotiable for Lesotho’s economic
development,” she stated.
Deputy
Principal Secretary at the Ministry of Gender, Youth and Social Development,
Thae Makhele, urged young people in Thaba-Tseka to fully utilise the facility
to broaden their opportunities in the digital economy.

The
new lab complements Vodacom’s Digital Skills Hub programme, which provides
Basotho with free certified online courses through a partnership with Amazon
Web Services. The initiative forms part of the company’s continued push to
equip young people with the skills required to participate in global
technology-driven sectors.
